To accurately determine Your sump pit flow rate you will need a tape measure and a watch that indicates seconds:
Measure the diameter of Your sump pit and note it down.
At a time of high water flow (when Your primary sump pump is cycling regularly), allow Your sump pump to drain Your sump pit to a level just above the top of the pump, and then turn off the pump.
Extend Your tape measure in your sump pit and lock it off with the "0 inch" end of the tape touching the water surface.
Observe the water level and note the amount of tape measure scale covered by water after exactly 60 seconds.
Make Sure You Turn Your Primary Sump Pump Back On!
